Vrba's in NYC

By Linda Asaro November 12, 2002 at 05:47:30

I am searching for info about my g-grandfather, Alois Vrba.
He came to NYC in 1885 with his wife Barbora. They had 2 kids in the Czech Republic who each died by age 2.

They had 2 kids in the US, one being my grandfather. The name was changed to Verba when he went to school.

I think that they came over with Barbora's twin sisters.Don't know if any of his family immigrated.Have never heard of any.Maybe they settled somewhere besides NYC.

Any info would be appreciated greatly.I know that they have him listed as a 'Wrba' because in the 1880's the Germans ruled the Czech Republic and they made him change his name. When he immigrated, he changed it back.I believe that he was a tailor in Czech.

Thanks for your help.
