Re: Mystery solved for George Wachtel, born 1832 in "ELKSA"
I was so happy to get your message. I have so many Wachtel photos and information and I'd love to share those with you, too. So I have George Wachtel's parents as Jean-Pierre/John Peter Wachtel and Anna Holtz, and Jean-Pierre's 2nd wife as Maria Elisabeth "Lisbeth" Pulver/Prelfer. Jean-Pierre and Elisabeth Pulfer/Pulver had (1) Rosan/Rose Ann Wachtel(October 28, 1842 to May 12, 1892, married Andrew J. Dumford in 1865,)(2) Wilhelm Wachtel b. 1846 and died November 18, 1906 in Richland Co, Illinois,) and (3)Louis R. "Tiger" Wachtel--your ancestor--born May 30, 1839 in Richland, Illinois, married Miami Gaddis on September 06, 1866, and passed away on December 03, 1909 in Olney.I got the majority of the information from a book by Willard Grey about the Wachtel family, and he wrote of the difficulties Anna and Jean-Pierre had coming over on the boat, and that she had a miscarriage during the voyage. She died around 1837, possibly from childbirth when giving birth to her son Peter Wachtel who was born that year, married Mary Jane (Belle) Phillips on August 22, 1876, and died January 13, 1914.They had 4 children. My great great grandfather George Wachtel, son of Jean-Pierre and Anna, was born on July 04, 1831, married Mary Elizabeth Lemke on October 01, 1872, and died March 26, 1881. According to Willard's book, there was a big uproar when Mary Elizabeth re-married later because it divided up the family fortune. I actually got to speak with him, and you'd think all this happened yesterday. I think he took a little poetic license in the book, but I do know George and Anna had another son by the name of Phillip, of whom I have no information. I do have some great photos of George Wachtel and Mary Elizabeth Lemke and their two children, and I believe there are some photos of your Lewis (nickname Tiger) in Grey's book--I'll have to look. When you have the time, I would love to see your information--I only have census records, and maybe Elisabeth is Jean-Pierre's only wife--I'm not sure. I don't have marriage or birth records for anyone. My e-mail is: email@example.com, and if you'd like to send me an e-mail, I'll have yours, too.I'd love to send you some photos and whatever documentation I have. Thanks so much for your excellent information,
