Imogene Waddell Smith, 78, of West Barton Ridge Road, Greeneville, Greene Co TN, passed away Monday afternoon, July 7, 2014, at Johnson City Medical Center, Washington Co TN. She was born May 17, 1936.
Imogene was employed by Magnavox for many years, then at a retail store, and then Greene Valley Developmental Center, where she was a seamstress prior to her retirement. She continued sewing for people following retirement.
She was a member of Kingsley Avenue Freewill Baptist Church, where she taught the Ladies Sunday School Class for many years. She was a devoted Christian lady and faithful to her church as long as her health permitted. She was a delight to always be around and always had a smile. She was a wonderful lady, wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who will be greatly missed.
She was a daughter of the late Maynard and Marie Waddell; and was preceded in death by her brother, Clarence Waddell; and a brother-in-law, Bill Gosnell.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, J. G. Smith; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lanny and Judy Smith and Larry and Missy Smith; one granddaughter, Ashton Smith; one grandson, Landon Smith; two step-grandchildren, Heather Jenkins and Hunter Harrison; two great-grandchildren, Logan and Austin; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Linda and Earl Helbert, Ruth Gosnell, and Janet Waddell; one brother and sister-in- law, Minnis and Norma Waddell; two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Maretta Waddell, and Gertie and Harlan Tullock; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Margie Smith.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m., and 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow visitation at 8 p.m., in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Doyle Pruett and the Rev. Gary Gass will officiate. Family and friends are asked to meet at Doughty- Stevens at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2014, to go to Cross Anchor Cemetery for the 11 a.m. committal service. Active pallbearers will be Denny Franklin, Dennis Fox, Roger Helbert, Mike Maggert, Wesley Justis, Kelly Richards, and Hunter Harrison. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Hall, Sammy Hardin, Troy Cutshall, Roger Gross, and members of the Ladies Sunday School Class of Kingsley Avenue FWB Church.
