Wendy Wadford Cook 9/11/12
Sorry for the multiple posts. In case you change your mind and want to take a closer look at Fletcher, I found a death record for her. She died 16-Sept-1942 in St. Stephens, Berkeley Co, SC.Her parents were John L. STOKES and Frances Louise CORBETT.
She's buried in the St. Stephens Baptist Church Cememtery. There's a listing for her on findagrave. Her parents are also buried there.
In the 1880 census for De Kalb, Kershaw Co., SC:
STOKES, John age 45 b. SC
wife F. Louise age 38 b. SC
son Jesse F. age 21
son James K. age 19
dau Fletcher age 17
dau F. Louise age 14
dau Priscilla age 11
dau Sarah C. age 9
In 1870 the above family was in Swimming Pens, Sumter Co., SC.
In 1900 John L. and Frances L. STOKES were in St. Stephens, Berkeley, SC.No children left at home, though all 6 children are marked in the still living column.John was born Aug 1836 and Frances in June 1842.They were married 42 yrs.
If Fletcher was James Edward WADFORD's mother, you might want to look at J.W. WADFORD, son Josie WADFORD and Sallie WYNELL as his father.I can not find James and his parents in the 1900 census, which would greatly help to tie them all in. They are all buried in the same cemetery, but you would have to contact the cemetery to see if they are buried near each other.J.W. is the only male WADFORD of the right age in that place. There is also a burial for a Preston WADFORD, son of J.W. and F.N. died 1913.
