I purchased the subject undated tintype of a young woman, identified on the back with a paper label reading:

"Mary Wagner - (related to
John Rothers wife
BUFFALO, NY"

This individual appears in Public Member Trees posted on ancestry.com.She is listed in the 1850, 1860, and 1870 U.S. Census data for Buffalo, Erie Co., NY; the1875 New York State Census data for Buffalo, Erie Co., NY; and the 1900 U.S. Census data for Buffalo (resided at 444 Pearl Street), Erie Co., NY.

Mary Margaret Wagner, born Apr 1849 in NY, died 1908 in Buffalo, Erie Co., NY, was the daughter of a shoemaker, Christop Wagner (1824-1908), and Margaretha Katharine Brueck (1826-1897).Mary married an artist, John Christian Rother (1845-1899).The couple had four children: Arthur Oscar Rother (1868-1926), Julia Catherine Rother (1871-1913), Ann Eleanor Rother (1879-), and Eugene William Rother (1880-1965).
