DNA-Testing Waggoners/Wagoners/Wagners from Davidson Co., TN
I am descended from Cornelius Waggoner b. bef. 1776. He was on record as being in Davidson Co. TN in 1798. He later acquired property and was in Smith Co., TN by 1804 and has lots of descendants originating there. His first wife was Susannah Unknown. We have for years looked for Waggoners who lived in Smith, Davidson, Wilson and Humphreys Cos., TN.
It appears we must be related to descendants of Christopher Waggoner b. 1755 and his younger brother Michael. Descendants of Cornelius Waggoner lived near them in those counties and had other associations per records. We have also found some records indicating Conrad Waggoner was in Davidson County, TN in 1799. We believe he was likely Conrad Jr. a brother of Christopher and Michael. From records, the father of these Waggoners appears to be Conrad Wagner Sr. b. 1729 Germany.
We also think Conrad Jr. married “Sussana” Baker 28 April 1789 in Lincoln Co., NC. Cornelius’ first wife was Sussanah Unknown. Their first child was Daniel Waggoner b. 1790 NC. It’s striking that if Conrad Jr. and Cornelius were the same person, all info we have would mesh for us to be related to Christopher and Michael and to know the maiden name of Cornelius’ wife. We have as yet not found any name references showing a middle initial of “C” or middle name of Cornelius for either Conrad Sr. or his son Conrad Jr.
We just initiated Y37-DNA testing at FTDNA and one of our known descendants of Cornelius exactly matches another “Wagner”. It appears this Wagner may be a descendant of Cornelius’ son David who we didn’t know anything about except Cornelius had a son by that name. We are extremely interested to know if any living male “Waggoner/Wagoner/Wagner” descendants of Christopher or Michael have completed Y-DNA testing or would be willing to do so. This may be the only way we can find out if we are closely related to descendants of Conrad Wagner Sr.
We would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions.
