Eliza Waldrip Ross McDaniel Smith of Indiana and Indian Territory
Published in the Sequoyah County Historical Society's book of 1875:
"Eliza Waldrip by Mrs. Cora Jennings
My grandmother, Eliza Waldrip, came from Indiana by boat, down the Wabash, Ohio, MIssissippi, and Arkansas rivers to Little Rock, Arkansas. She was married in Indian Territory to George Ross, a Cherokee Indian. They had one child, George Ross. After her husband's death, she later married Joel McDaniel, a Cherokee Indian, and they had one child, Joanna, who was my mother. After Joel died she married a Mr. Smith, they had one child, Nan Smith."The rest of the article concerns Joanna and Cora's marriages and children.
Cora's sister Wynona says that Eliza, her parents, and one sister traveled together. Both the mother and the sister drowned. The father was grief stricken. He left Eliza with a family in Arkansas and returned to Indiana, and married again.
Joanna was born in 1862, George around 1858 (I think) and I have no information on Nan.I'm assuming that Eliza was born around 1840.
Does anyone have any idea who the Waldrip family of Indiana could be?
Thanks, Mel
