Re: Elisha_Stephen_Benjamin Waller - 3 brothers in 1798 Hancock Co GA
Information I've pieced together suggests that William Babel Waller (1808-1829) was the son of Elisha, my 3rd great-gf.
Genealogy published long ago in a Tangipahoa (formerly St. Helena area) newspaper reads as follows.
"Green B. Waller married Jane Blount 7/22/1847.(Said to have been a son of Balaam Waller, who was a brother of Zelphina who married a Veirs and of Harris Waller. They are believed to have been the children of Elisah or Elijah, who died near Natchez while on a trip to trade there.)"
I suspect that Balaam and William Babel Waller are the same person, so your William Babel Waller would be a son of my 3rd great-gf Elisha.I interpret the newspaper info above to indicate that only Elisha died on the Natchez trip.Interesting that your lore indicates that Wm Babel Waller may have died on the same trip to Natchez.
I have found both an Elisha Waller and Elijiah Waller in Hancock County.Elijiah was still in Hancock County on the 1820 Census.Elisha Waller settled land in Helena Parish LA in 1804 (according to American State Papers) and is listed on a 1827 platt map of T2S R6E in US Bureau of Land records. Some of this land is still occupied by my 2nd cousins.
Stephen Waller purchased land in St. Helena Parish T2S R6E in 1803 and 1805 (according to American State Papers)and then sold in 1817 (St Helena Parish records) and then moved to Amite MS where he died in 1820. Joshua Dow Waller was son of this Stephen Waller.I suspect that Stephen and Elisha were brothers and am searching for evidence to prove it.I hope this will lead to names of parents of Elisha and Stephen. Can you help?
At the very least, it appears we are distant relatives!
