Estate of John C. Waits, Sr. (husband of Martha Warbington)

By Virginia Weeks Warbington January 09, 2005 at 07:12:08

There were slaves owned by Jacob B. Warbington, Sr.'s son-in-law, John C. Waits, Sr., who could possibly have carried the "Warbington" surname. Or, they could have carried the surname "Waits."

"Inventory and sales of the Estate of John Waits Decd, January 15, 1844......
1 Negro boy Henry, sold to Horatio Waits for $835.00.
1 Negro woman Mary & child, sold to John Waits for $925.00.
1 Negro girl Rachel, sold to Levi Waits for $701.00....."

These three men, Horatio, John and Levi Waits were some of the sons of John C. Waits, Sr.

On 27 Jan 1845, Horatio Waits sold to Southy Fisher, "a certain Negro man slave named Henry, about twenty three years old, for $700.00." [Lauderdale Co., MS Deed Book D, pg. 336]
