Joab Watson b. 1775 Family Bible, held by Applewhite family circa 1966
I'm looking for the bible of an old relative.
A publication by Mississippi Genealogical Society., 1959 Registers of Births, etc., stated that the Joab WATSON family bible was presently owned by Mr. Ralph Applewhite of Winona, MS.Mr. Applewhite is a descendant of Joab WATSON.
Additionally, a citation from Daughters of the American Revolution Magazine, Volume 101 published in 1967 stated that Ralph Applewhite of Winona, MS was in possession of the Joab WATSON family bible - the citation misspelled his name as "Joeb".
I tracked down Ralph Applewhite's granddaughter in Mississippi a few years ago, but she had no knowledge of the bible.
Yesterday, I found an article with a fascinating interview with Mr. Applewhite from 1975 located at http://mdah.state.ms.us/arrec/digital_archives/vault/projects/OHtranscripts/AU155_015931.pdfhttp://mdah.state.ms.us/arrec/digital_archives/vault/projects/OHtranscripts/AU155_015931.pdf, but there is little mention of Mr. Applewhite's ancestry, and none concerning the WATSON family.
Mr. Applewhite died in 1981.His obituary can be found here: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=21389840http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=21389840
My thought is that this bible was donated to an historical archives in Mississippi, and if so, there may be a possibility to transcribe the personalized contents; some of which I have been able to learn.
If anyone has any information on this I would be very interested!
