GEORGE & MARY (Widow Taylor) WATWOOD, Goochland Co VA, 1742:
A possible father of the George Watwood who m. Margaret Franklin in Botetourt Co VA is another George Watwood, who m. Mary Taylor, widow of Charles Taylor, 4 Mar 1742/43 in Goochland Co VA.
Sources: I have a photocopy of the marriage record from Goochland Co, but not recorded on group sheet; will post it when I find it.Published sources: William & Mary College Quarterly Historical Magazine, Vol. 7, No. 2, p. 99. Goochland County, Virginia, Marriage Bonds, p. 90. Goochland Co VA Deeds 4:361 – Mary Taylor, widow of Charles Taylor, “now married to George Watwood,” sold land in Goochland Co 17 May 1743.
I searched published tax lists and land records of Goochland Co for this time period but found no Watwood there by any spelling I could think of.
GEORGE WATWOOD of Perth Amboy NJ, 1745:
New Jersey Marriages, Colonial Era, 1665-1800 (ancestry.com) yields the following:
from William Nelson, Documents Relating to the Colonial History of the State of New Jersey (Patterson NJ: Press Printing & Publishing, 1900) Marriage Licenses The Marriage Ceremony Males. W Divorces By the Court of Chancery. Page 433
George Watwood, Perth Amboy, Hannah Applegate, Perth Amboy, Mar. 25, 1745.
Don’t know if this means they got marriage license or divorce this date, but very interesting.Might this be the George Watwood whom Harvey Watwood has reported with James Watwood in (as I recall) 1790 SC census? Is he the father of the George Watwood who m. Margaret Franklin?
