1867 LARGE ORNATE FAMILY BIBLE WECKERLY BAKER
Beautiful red and gold embossed family bible dated 1867. Holy Bible, containing the old and new testaments, conforms to the American Bible Society's original standard edition of 1816, published by William W. Harding, Philadelphia, 1867. The front and back covers show the last supper, the edges of the pages are also gold gilt. It has a heavy brass clasp and several black and white engravings. There is a section between old and new testament for family marriages, births, and deaths, and two pages for inserting family photos (none included).
The first entry in the marriage section is
John Weckerly and Elizabeth Stahlman 1839. There is one page
of marriages, 2 pages of births, and one page of deaths. There are several other papers with Weckerly family history some dating back to early 1800's.
Someone wrote in ink on the inside front cover "This
old bible was property of Grandpa & Grandma Baker, they lived around Winslow McConnell, IL close to the Basswood School and church. H. D. Baker married Elizabeth Minerva Weckerly Baker".
There is a 2 1/2" tear where the front cover meets the spine, and some wear mainly on the edges, but overall a great looking antique bible.
