Re: Tobias "BIAS" Wells in AR and GA 1850s
I, too, am searching for how William Wells was related to Tobias (Bias, Byas) Wells. His son, Elbert English Wells married Samantha Hand in Marion Co., GA, and they had one daughter, Mary Melissa Wells who married a man named Warren Melton.
He then married a kinsman of mine, Alsey (Elsie) Franklin, a daughter of William Franklin in about 1870 in Trinity Co., TX and had several children by her. Two of these sons, John Newman Wells and William B. (Willie) Wells married two of my old great aunts (sisters). John Newman Wells married Alice Clotilde Seale and William B. Wells married Fannie Olive Seale. Elsie died in 1912 and Elbert remarried to a third wife Mrs. R. A. Walker February 14, 1913. He died September 24, 1921 in Lufkin, Angelina Co., TX.
I have found Elbert E. Wells in 1860 living with that William Wells and his family, and I found "Bias" Wells on the 1850 census in Hot Springs, AR with Elbert's sister, Esther M. and two more children, John, and Mary. I also found "Byas" Wells in 1840 in Hot Springs as a single man, no wife, no children.
I would like to know where Tobias was between his birth in about 1800 and 1840. I couldn't find him in Marion Co., GA, nor in AR.
I am of the opinion right now that this William Wells might have been his brother since his birth was in about 1794, but no proof of that.
Anyone have any ideas?
