Re: Wendel-Germany to New York
Thank you for the information. My great Uncle told me several years ago that our family had a connection to a wealthy family fro.m New York but he didn't know how we connected.I have found several newspaper article on the Wendel family who sound quite interesting.
One article says my great, great, great grandmother was a niece of John Gottlieb Wendel, grandfather of Miss Ella Wendel. Her name, if my hunch is correct, is Elizabeth, maiden name unknown. She married a Reding and is the other of my great, great grandfather John Reding who was born in Germany about 1832. Elizabeth was living with John and his first wife and kids on the 1860 census in Baltimore.
I have a family tree of the Wendel family starting withJohn Sebastian Wendel and Mary Dorothea Kuhne and there isn't an Elizabeth mentioned.
In order for Elizabeth to be niece she would obviously have to be the child of one of John Gottlieb Matthias Wendel and that narrows the choices down to two, Juergen or Anna. So far I haven't had any luck proving it though.
If you should happen to find a Reding connection to the Wendel's please keep me in mind.
Thanks again, Lisa
