Little is known of the ancestors of John Wengert, except that they came from Germany and settled on a farm now owned by Christian Wengert (date of book, 1904), which was purchased from the goverment, according to the statement of grandfather, Martin Wengert, and has never been out of this family since its purchase. Martin Wenger lived and died on this farm, his children were born here, Martin, Mary and Jacob, they were members of United Brethern. His daughter Mary, married Joseph Light and had 5 children; Jacob never married; Martin married Nancy Herr, their children; John; Fanny; Nancy; Christian; Elizabeth; Abraham; Amos; Amands. (Note; Martin Sr., and Nancy (Herr) are buried at Mt. Nebe, near Avon, Lebanon county) they were members of the Evangelical Church.
John Wengert, was born in E. Hanover, Lebanon county, on 9/11/1841, he married 9/13/1863 to Susanna Scheader, d/o Isaiah Schneader; Children of John and Susannah, William Albert who married Susanna Ulrich and had 2 children, Esther and 1 who died in infancy; Lizzie Eleanora who married Sherman Albert and had 3 children, John Walter, Catharine and Clarence. Susanna (Scheader) Wengert died in Nov. 1896 (buried in Mt. Nebo). On Dec. 3 1897 John Wengert for the 2nd time to Emma L. Shelby, d/o John and Elizabeth Shelby, Emma L. was born Dec. 2, 1869 and had one child, Alice Sarah.
