I just came into possession of an original land deed or deed of sale from the 1700's detailing the land previously held by my 8th ggrandfather George BROWN, deceased of Wellfleet, Barnstable Co., MA that his son Samuel BROWN, mariner, was possibly selling to Beriah HIGGINS. Samuel BROWN's daughter was Mary BROWN (1728-16 Feb 1774 Wellfleet, Barnstable Co., MA) who married William WITHERELL (Mar 1721/1722-bef 1 Dec 1810 Wellfleet, Barnstable Co., MA)Wellfleet was a part of Eastham, Barnstable Co., MA.This couple had several children, one of which was my 5th great grandfather Capt. Whitefield WITHERELL (3 Dec 1769 Eastham, Barnstable Co., MA - 7 Dec 1848 Wellfleet, Barnstable Co., MA) who married Jerusha RYDER (6 May 1774 prob. in Chatham, MA - 4 Jun 1853 Wellfleet, Barnstable Co., MA) and they are both buried in South Wellfleet Cemetery in South Wellfleet, Barnstable Co., MA.Their daughter Mercy Gage WITHERELL (28 Jan 1802 Wellfleet - 15 Jun 1879 nursing home in Boston, MA) was my 6th ggrandmother and she married Capt. Samuel SMITH (8 nOV 1798 Wellfleet, Barnstable Co., MA - 30 Aug 1884 Malden, Middlesex Co., MA).
