Benjamin S Wharton of Iowa circa 1863
In old family papers I have discovered several US Civil War era letters (without envelopes) from Benjamin S Wharton, then serving with Federal troops in Little Rock, Arkansas, to his wife Lyda somewhere in Iowa. The letters are difficult to read, but they are legible. In my opinion their historical value is quite small or negligible, but their human interest value could be great, especially to any descendants he may have. To my knowledge I am not related to any Whartons, though my deceased stepmother might have been.
I am a complete novice in genealogy matters, so I have just started a search for a responsible historian or scholar with the skill and determination to transcribe the letters and make them available to the public.
When I do deliver the letters(I think there are nine of them)to someone, I will report that on this forum so that any of you can follow up as you wish.
