"Thomas Whatlock, son of John and Agness Whatlock, b. Pentlow, County Essex, England, was b. c. 1520 at Lavenham, Co. Suffolk, England, d. 25 Jan 1608, Lavenham, m. c. 1558-60 Suffolk, England - Joann, b. Rattlesdon, Co. Suffolk, d. 14 March 1610, 'Relict of Thomas Whatlock" is given in the Rattlesdon Parish first record book.Thomas probably d. Rattlesdon as he is in their records 'buried 25 Jan 1608, a very old man.'He was a knacker which means he worked with flint work, the kind of stone that is common in the region and of which many of the churches are built."
"Lavenham Parish Church, where Thomas Whatlock, father of Martha Whatlock Scot was born, is one of the loveliest churches of East Anglia.It is made of flint with flint ship trimming, has a very tall tower, and many arms and crests used as trimming by the de Vere family who were patrons of this Parish."
