Re: OSCAR & ZACK WHEAT
My name is Zachary A .Wheat.I am Zachariah Davis and Daisy Kerr Forsman Wheat's great-grandson. My grandfather was Zachary Forsman Wheat II,my father is Zachary Earl Wheat III,and I am Zachary Alan Wheat IV.Yes I know we all have different middle names and it started out as Zachariah but that is another story.
Zachariah Davis Wheat's half brothers and sisters where as follows:There mother was Mary Alexander and father was Basil Curtis Wheat.
Then Mary Alexander died I believe in child birth??
Basil Curtis then married Julia Davis Scott and they had the following children.
Zachariah Davis Wheat my great-grandfather Hall of Famer
McKinley Davis Wheat the Mack Wheat you spoke of that was a catcher
Basil Curtis Wheat.
I am sorry but you mentioned that your great-grandfather was Harry David Wheat,I do not show any Harry David Wheat as being a brother or half brother.Possibly he is a cousin but he is not listed in any of my family papers. Also his mother's name was Julia Davis Scott Wheat rather than Julia Dee Scott. He did die any 1972 in Sedalia Missouri after returning from a trip to a Baseball Players reunion in Miami Florida,he became very ill while there and wanted to come home.He and his daughter Mary Helen arrived in Kansas City and then my father (Zachary E. Wheat) met them and started for home. They knew he was very ill but he insisted that he go to his Lake Lodge in Sunrise Beach Missouri. They got about half way home when he became worse and they went to Bothwell Hospital and died as my father was carrying him into to the hospital from complications due to his age and health but not a heart attack.
As far as the myth that he was half Cherokee that is all that it is and a story that has been told for many years. There is no truth to that what so ever.
Hope I have been able to clear up some misunderstandings for you, this is one of the many.If I can be of any help please let me know.
Zachary A. Wheat
