Harry Smith Wherry, of Willis & Wherry, farmers and stock dealers in Sumner Co. was born there in 1847. He is one of 11 children of John J. and Jane (Smith)Wherry. The (father, of Scotch-Welsh origin, was born in Sumner, Co, TN., near Gallatin, TN. about 1816. He was appointed tobacco inspector by Andrew Jackson. He died Nov. 1875. The mother, of Welsh descent,was born in Sumner Co. about 1816.In December, 1876, he married Cecelia, daughter of Stephen C. and Mary (Bradford) Willis,born in Sumner Co., in 1850. There children were, John S., Harry S., Bobert Emmett, Jennie May, Georgie May and Priestly Edward. They were members of the Little Presbyterian Church of Hendersonville.
