Mr. William Harry "Bill" Whipp Sr., 78, of 4301 Dover Dr., Frederick, died Saturday, June 26, 2004, at the Vindabona Nursing Home, Braddock Heights. He was the husband of the late Eva Viola Jenkins Whipp, who died April 2, 1985.
Born Aug. 4, 1925, in Frederick, Mr. Whipp was a son of the late Harry Roth and Naomi Druscilla Wertz Whipp.
Mr. Whipp was a lifetime member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He co-owned and operated Whipp-Barger Home Builders, enjoyed carpentry, and loved to hunt and fish.
Surviving are three children, Sharon Grubbs and husband Cecil Anthony Grubbs of Frederick, Diane Virginia Lakel and husband Thomas Michael Moser of Woodbine, and William Harry Whipp Jr. of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren, Deanie Pugh of Damascus, Gary Alley of Inwood, W.Va., Kara Seelye of Atlanta, William A. Lakel III of Fisherville, Va, Rebecca Lakel of Hampstead, Amy Whipp of Hagerstown, and William H. Whipp III of Woodbine; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Brubaker of Frederick; two brothers, Harold Whipp of Tennessee and Wayne Whipp of Frederick; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Whipp was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Whipp, Lee Whipp and George Whipp.
Mr. Whipp is at the Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Homes, P.A., 1201 North Market St., Frederick, where the family will receive friends at 7-9 p.m., Monday, June 28. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, at the funeral home with his pastor, the Rev. Marina Flores of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Manor Reformed Church Cemetery, Ballenger Creek Pike, Frederick.
Bearers will be Thomas Moser and Cecil Anthony Grubbs, sons-in-law; Gary Alley, William A. Lakel III and William H. Whipp III, grandsons; and Gary Alley Jr., great-grandson.
