Kim,

The surname DNA projects use Y-DNA testing. Because Y-DNA is only passed from a father to his sons, you do not have Whisenhunt Y-DNA.

Women do participate in Y-DNA projects by having a male relative tested. The male would need to be a direct male line descendant of your Whisenhunts.

If a woman does want to participate, she should enter her email address as an additional email address, when she orders the Y-DNA test kit. She can then have access to the FTDNA Personal Pages for her line's test kit. If she wants to be the main contact person for the kit, she should enter email address first, and her male relative's email as the additional email address.

Here is a link to the page where you can join the Whisenhunt DNA Project and order the Y-DNA test kit at a group discounted price. I recommend ordering not less than the 37 marker Y-DNA test kit:

Thank you for your interest.
