Thank you for that information. It took some digging, but I turned them both up. :)

On the 1880 Census in Ward 1, Bienville County, Louisiana, I found "Cicroe Holland" living with Nancy Harrell and her son James. Birthplaces and dates of Cicroe and her children, Charles and Rosy, match Luissis (various spellings) and her children, but I have never seen the name "Cicroe" associated with her. I looked at the handwriting and I couldn't come up with anything else it might spell.

On the 1870 in Ward 2, Jackson County, Louisiana (Vienna), I found L Whisnant20 y "Keeping house" for J Whisnant 59 y who was a "farmer" and living with J N Whisnant 19 y who was "working farm". L Whisnant is 10-11 years too young to match the other ages I have for Luississ. The 1879 Census doesn't list relationships, but the ages do make it look like a father and two children.

This is what I have for Luisssiss:
Lusissis S Whisnant

B: Abt 1839 in Alabama, USA
D: November 1929 in Oklahoma, USA

What was your conclusion about the date and name mismatches on these two censuses? I would love for these to be the correct person, but I really lack so much information on her that I am struggling with connecting these to her. Do you have any other info about these Whisnants?

My grandmother and other older members of my family told me she was born in Liechtenstein and said she supported herself after Jasper's death by selling her jewelry. Grandma also described some furniture she had by the fire as having really tall backs and really short legs. Grandma also mentioned that she appeared to never take her shoes off, grandma was very young when she knew her and said she appeared to go to bed with them on and get up with them on. This read to me at the time as someone more proper than some of my other relatives from that time. This is all I have from oral history in my family and who knows how much is accurate.

Feel free to correct me where I am wrong on the above. I would love to hear anything else you or anyone else knows that might help me clear up this branch of my tree.

Jodi
