It has been more than ten years since I had even glanced at the genealogy of Edmond Basye (1675-1746) and family. In that ten years it has come to light about this 1st marriage of Lilia Pope versus Kerrenhappuch Whitfield.I have no marriage dates on either Lila Pope or either Karenhappuch Whitfield.
First, there is no proof of the marriage of Lilia Pope and her being the mother of all of Edmond Basye Jr children other than Leanna Basye’s son being named Abdias Pope Webb….which MAY be named after his grandmother Lilia Pope. However, we have nothing else to go on.After searching everywhere, cannot come up with Lilia Pope’s family. But, I find that Edmond Basye, Jr’s brother Isaac Basye married a Elizabeth Pope, daughter of John Pope and Ann Ball; but they have no children named Lilia Pope.It is believed that Lilia Pope is somehow related to the Pope family in Northumberland County, Virginia, but at this time unable to connect them.
Secondly, in looking at the marriage of Edmond Base and Karrenhappuch Whitfield. We know that Karrenhappuch married Edmond Basye Jr and after he died married 2ndHowell Edmunds and had three children; Molly, Sally, Jane.In Thomas Whitfield’s will dated July 9, 1781, Isle of Wright County, Virginia; Thomas Whitfield mentioned his daughter, Karrenhappuch Edmunds and son-in-law Howell Edmunds and his three grandchildren, Molly, Sally, and Jane. Therefore, we know that Karrenhappuch’s maiden name is Whitfield….we know that Karrenhappuch married Edmond Basye….we know that Karrenhappuch married Howell Edmunds and had Molly, Sally, Jane.I believe that if Karrenhappuch Whitfield Basye Edmunds had children with Edmund Basye then her dad Thomas Whitfield would have named those children in his will but did not mention anything about Basye children.
In searching for Howell Edmunds, could not find any dates or proof of his parents.BUT, did come across information in David Edmunds and Ann Northington.Ann Northington left a will dated October 31, 1794 in Southampton County, Virginia. She mentioned granddaughters, Sally Simmons ( Marriage bond to unknown Simmons was dated November 13, 1790 with consent of mother Karenhappuch Edmunds), Jane Edmunds, and Mary Edmunds Dawson. Thus, I would think that Ann Northington Edmunds was grandmother of Karenhappuch Whitfield, Basye, Edmunds and Howell Edmunds three daughters.
Has anyone else out there come up with these conclusions or am I completely off on all of it.
