David, my great great grandfather is Pinkney Reeves Whitlow and that is what is driving the search for info on Lawrence Whitlow. Several Whitlow cousins have said that they know nothing about a Lawrence. That 1910 census with his stepfather Ellis Rash says Lawrence's father was born in Missouri. If that is correct that opens up a lot more Whitlow's. What I have been able to discern at this point is that there is a record of Lawrence marrying a Jewell Durham on 25 May 1936 in Lawrence Co., AR. The year before a Jewell Durham and husband Burt are divorced in Hempstead Co., AR. They were married about 1916 in Hempstead Co. Then in 1937 there appears a record that Jewell remarries Burt Durham. My feelings now are that since Hempstead and Lawrence counties are at opposite ends of Arkansas the chances of us talking about the same gal are probably slim and none. Also,a WWII registration card says Jewell is in Hope, Hempstead, AR in 1942. So I've pretty much concluded as of the other day that Lawrence Whitlow married a different Jewell Durham as an Enid, Oklahoma city directory lists Lawrence and Jewell as living at 2557 N 4th in 1938-39. Apparently Lawrence was a musician at that time but their subsequent whereabouts and who his father was remains a mystery. Lawrence's mom, Ollie Howard, married my great grandfather Thomas Oliver Phillips, everyone in and around Lawrence Co., AR. The best hope is that Lawrence and Jewell had children and I can come across a reference to them somewhere. Thanks for your input.
