Re: Michael vs. Georg Frederick
I'm glad to know that I didn't miss that one drop of proof that I've been searching for all these years.
My husband is from Michael's line, and his family is adament that they are Scots/Irish. There are others in the family that say they are German.
Haskell Pruett's book on the family of Christopher Whitmire, Michael's son, is being reprinted, FINALLY.
In that book, which is about 40 years old, George Frederick is included, and it is generally accepted that Michael and he were brothers. That one book created a lot of the "rumor". It is full of errors, but I love it, warts and all.
My own family is from a section of France that swapped hands between Germany and France for years, to the point that my family left in 1726, when it was still part of France. They were Lutheran, and I'm very aware of German naming patterns.
I can just imagine a Whitmire reunion a hundred years ago when some mother called, MICHAEL, and 10 little heads popped up.
