Katharine Wiese, the daughter of Asmus and Emma Riechers Jurgensen, was born December 15, 1893, in O’Brien County, IA.She received her education in O’Brien County rural schools.On December 17, 1913, she was united in marriage to Edward Wiese in Calumet, IA.After their marriage, the couple settled on a farm near Larrabee, IA, where they farmed for many years.Edward preceded her in death on November19, 1963, in Larrabee, IA.She remained on the family farm until moving into Calumet three years ago, living there for a month before moving to the Cherokee Villa.She passed away at the Villa on Tuesday, October 22, 1991, reaching the age of 97 years, 10 months and 7 days.
She was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Calumet and the Fellowship of the Church.She was also a member of the Hi-Low Card Club.Her enjoyments were flowers and gardening and working with her hands by doing crocheting and embroidering.Her church and it’s many activities was a big part of her life.
Katharine leaves to cherish her memory her children:one son and his wife, Delbert and Ida Wiese of Paullina, IA; three daughters:Geneva Gerstandt and Norma Wiese, both of Calumet; Arlene and her husband, Donald Wittrock of Primghar, IA; nine grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; two sisters:Mrs. Nellie Richter of Paullina and Mrs. Viola Davis of Spirit Lake, IA; also a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one son, Raymond; son-in-law, August Gerstandt; two brothers and four sisters.
Services were held October 25, 1991 at Zion United Church of Christ, Calumet, IA with Rev. Glenn Davis officiating.Final Resting Place - Liberty Township Cemetery, Calumet, IA.
