William “Bill” Wilborn of Cumberland Countyappeared for the last time in 1820 in KY, It was clear that he had moved. His brother Edward had also moved and did not appear in Cumberland County after 1820;neither of them showed up in Russell or Clinton County which was formed form Cumberland County KY.Since Cumberland County bordered Overton Co. TN in 1820-1830 time period it was logical that he had moved over the border into Overton Co. TN.The 1830 and 1840 census of Overton Co. shows him to be born between1785-1794 and he would have been in the right age to have fought in the War of 1812.His father was Thomas Wilborn who died in Cumb. Co. in abt 1816 and left a will. Thomas Wilbornalso had a son named Thomas Wilborn. In the Overton County Marriage Ledgers we see a William “Bill” Wilborn married a Polly Armstrong in 1817. Polly Armstrong was daughter of James Armstrong and Nancy Lanier of Henry Co. VA.. The Armstrong’s had received land grants in Cumberland Co. Ky and also in Overton Co. TN.Her father, James Armstrong, got a land grantbetween the Wolf River and the Obey River that would today be in Clay County TN.William “Bill” Wilborn on the 1840 census had two sons (Thomas M. and William “Billy”) and three daughters (Catherine, Martha and Mary Ann). One of his sons Thomas M. Wilborn was appointedby the courts to handle the estateofhis father William “Bill” Wilborn who had died intestate in 1844 (in Ov COTN?).We know that ThomasM. Wilborn had a sister Catharine Wilborn who married William Wilson Heard in 1843. “Bill” Wilborn also had a son named William“Billy” Wilborn. In the 1850 census of Overton Co. TN she, Catherine, has married and also living with the William Wilson Heard family is William “Billy” Wilborn, her 15 year old brother. From Court records in Overton Co. we know that two minor heirs, Martha Wilborn and Mary Ann Wilborn, were appointed a guardian of Calvin Sams (Samms).I did finda Calvin Sams in Ark in 1850 and his father was Calvin Sams of Cumb. Co. KY.Looking in the 1810 Census of Ky I do find a man with the last name of Sams. This is the beginning of the William Wilborn of 1812 in Overton Co. TN.
"Nicknames" have been added to try and aid to helping keey these families seperated. No I add that another Willima Wilborn "Will"who married Eliz Grider moved to Ov. Co. TN and lived in and among the other William Wilborn's...just to add a little more confusion to the issue.
