MRS. ELIZA E. WILEY, wife of MR. THOS. WILEY, died at her home four miles southwest of town, at five o'clock Monday morning, Feb. 3, l902, at the age of 73 years.The disease was enlargement of the liver from which she suffered many months, but tenderly cared for by her children and friends.MR. WILEY, aged 83 years, survives her, also two sons and three daughters, the sons living here and the daughters in Indiana, Nebraska and Missouri.Four were with her at death and the others arrived in time for the funeral.
MR. and MRS. WILEY were married in Ohio, March l2, l846, later removed to Missouri, and came to Decatur County in l866, nearly thirty-six years ago.Notwithstanding the extreme cold weather, many friends gathered at the funeral.By her request Eld. H.A. Stebbins preached the sermon, and also she chose Messrs. Bert Teale, Andrew, Daniel, B.M., and Oscar Anderson, and Maynard Tilton to be the pall bearers.In the absence of Ben Anderson, Mr. John Gray served in his stead, he also being an old friend.Services were at her home and she was brought to town and laid in Rose Hill.MR. WILEY was too feeble to leave the house and attend the burial.
MRS. WILEY united with the Missionary Baptist Church in l850, in Ohio, but November l0, l882, united with the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of L.D.S., being baptized here by Eld. A.S. Davison.
