The Indiana State Library Genealogy Division indicates that Luke Wiley and Sephronia D Brown were married on 4/28/1835 in Posey County, Indiana. They were married by Gillison Price Justice of the Pease.
In the 1840 censes a Luke Wiley between the age of 30 & 40 years is listed as head of household along with a female between the age of 20 and 30, one female and two males children under 5 years of age.
In the 1850 census Sephronia was living in Harmony Township, Posey County, Indiana with Mary, Miles, Ernest, Morris and Albert. (Morris was listed as “Maurice”). She was listed as head of household.
In the 1850 censes Luke Wiley is found in Placerville, El Dorado County, California. He left Indiana for the Gold Rush in California. His profession is listed as a “hireling”.
In the 1860 census Sephronia was living in New Harmony Township, Posy County, Indiana with Morris and Albert. (Morris was listed as Morris, Sephronia was listed as “Saprouia”). She was listed as head of household.
Miles, Ernest and Morris all enlisted in the Union Army, 7th Cavalry Regiment Illinois, Company E during the Civil War. They served from 1861 to 1865. Morris was 14 years old when he enlisted.
Miles enlisted as a Sergeant and mustered out as a Major. Ernest enlisted as a Sergeant and mustered out as a 2nd Lieutenant. Morris enlisted as a private and mustered out as a Sergeant.
Sephronia died in 1863 while the boys were away at war. The 1910 census of Morris states that Luke was born in North Caroline and Sephronia was born in Maine.
