Seeking any information on the Willson families of County Monaghan. Elizabeth Willson (b. Aug. 12, 1800, Legacurry, County Monaghan) married John Carson in November 1821; they migrated to Washington County, Illinois, and then Dade County Missouri. See http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/7036978/person/-1010399306http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/7036978/person/-1010399306 These were my wife’s great-great grandparents.
Reported siblings of Elizabeth Willson Carson include John, Mary, Ann, Harry, Isaac, & Thomas Willson. Some of these siblings, or other Willson kin, may have migrated to America, especially to Washington County, Illinois.
Elizabeth’s parents were reportedly Henry (or John) Willson & Elizabeth Irwin Willson. They were Covenanter Presbyterians. Henry/John was reportedly a surgeon and farmer near Ballybay, Co. Monaghan. Henry (or John) is mentioned in "The Carson of Ballybay", by David Melville Carson. Griffiths Valuation data (1848-1865) show both Henry & John Willson at Legacurry in Tullycorbet Parish. There is a John Willson on Meetinghouse Lane in Ballybay, & one wonders if that was the location of Willson’s surgery.
