Zachariah W. Wimberley & Quinney (sp?) Vaughan?
I'm one of many who seem to be trying to locate the parents ofZachariah W. Wimberley, (who was the father of Pleasant Wimberley, who led his siblings to Texas and founded the town of Wimberley).
Zachariah seems to have been born in either 1787 or 1790, in Wake County, NC, in the Raleigh area ( not literally in Raleigh, as was reported, because Raleigh wasn't incorporated until 1792. I've heard reports that he was really born near the Chatham county line, and also in the Apex area.)
His first wife, my line, was Quinney (or Quinne or Queney -- LOTS of other spellings) Mays Vaughan. They married in 1812. Joel Bird helped with the marriage bond ($500) so is presumably a relative, especially as they name one of their children Joel.(He is probably the Joel Bird born around 1787.)
She died June 1, 1837 in childbirth with Quinnie Mae, and was born around 1794-97. Her father was Stephen Vaughan (supposed to be the one born in 1765 in Halifax, NC -- not the one born in 1767 in Mecklenburg, VA) and mother was Priscilla.
No one seems to know Priscilla's last name but there are a couple of intriguing possibilities. (My line claims a Native-American connection via Zachariah, for instance.)
Despite other Wimberly/Wimberleys in NC at the time, no one seems to know Zachariah's parents or siblings, and my line even claims there is no connection to the nearby Wimberlys.Yet there is no record of him emigrating.
Anyone wish to share info or speculation on this mystery man?
