Walter Winchel was indeed his name. The extra "L" was accidentally added. It remained as part of the spelling.
I am trying to find out more about his early life-prior to teaming with his dance partner and then later becoming the announcer with his famous statement at the beginning of his broadcast. I need to find out early information regarding him, in that, I am researching the history of my family and he fits in somewhere on the paternal side.
Apparently, the family would today be construed as needing lots of assistance in learning to get along with each other. I have been told Mr. Winchel was not highly regarded by the rest of the family-and he held this part of the family in extreme disregard. Ahhhh-such is what families are noted for too many times.
At any rate, anything anyone can add to my knowledge of his early life from birth to adult would be greatly appreciated.
