Re: John Estes Winfree
I have checked the information I have on Jess E. Winfree. The 1900 census record is transcribed as John E. The 1880, 1910, 1920, and 1930 have Jes, jesse, or jessie. The marriage record has Jess E. His tombstone has J. E. His obituary has Jess. I have obituaries for most of his children. The two that list the parents have his name as jess. I suspect that his name was Jess E. I have not found a record that indicates what the E.is for. It may be Estes. The child born after him was named John William Winfree. It would be very unusual to give two children the same name if the first is still living.
I am researching the descendants of Jonathan Agee who was an early settler in Smith County. This line of Winfrees are also Agee descendants. I have a good bit of information on them. If you are interested in seeing the information e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will send it to you. If you know of anyone researching this line of Winfrees I would be glad to share information with them,
