Winston Slaves
I have come to a dead end in the search for my ancestors. The last ancestor I can trace is in the 1870 census and his name is Alex, Aleck, or Alick Winston. He was 46 and his wife was Elvira, or Elvina and she was 37. In the 1870 census he lived in Shelby County Tn -Sulpher Wells was the Post Office. He had 8 children living in the home at the time: Sam -20, Albert-19 (my great, great, grandfather), Lucy -15, Andy-12, Peter or Geter-10, William-7, Alick-4, and Jonas-2. His son Albert ended up with William Overton Winston at the Winston Plantation in Valley Head,Dekalb Co., Al. There he married Laura Davenport in a big wedding that Capt. Davenport gave them on another plantation and interestingly the wedding was attended by whites and blacks. I am trying to find if Alex is in a will of one of the white Winstons who came to TN and perhaps I can find who is father was. Therefore, anyone who has access to the Winston wills, I would appreciate if you would check. Thanks
