Jonathan: Recommend you contact Kevin L. GREENHOLT of Carlisle, PA, (in the phone book) who has written a history: "The WINTRODE Families of Adams Co, PA", dated 14 Jan 07, a manuscript copy of which is on file at the Adams County Historical Society, Gettysburg, as of 8-18-07. To briefly answer your question, it appears from the history that Johan Casper W. (1705-a.1777) was settled at a tract called "Wolf's Pit", some 4 miles SW of Frederick, MD, from about 1735-c.1777. Mr. Greenholt is descended from the John Jacob Wintrode (1735-1797) to which you refer.
My interest is in the SELL family, which has some collateral connections with Esq. Adam Wintrode (1739-1813)in Adams County. Also another connection: apparently a Catherine Sell married a Henry BUCHER in the late 1700's and lived in NC. She is associated with Aeltje Sell, Mennonite then Lutheran, who married Christopher ELROD in 1742 in Monocacy, MD, joined the Moravian Church and lived and died in North Carolina. I'd like to hear more about the Henry Bucher you mentioned. Thanks, Richard Sell
