Re: MICHAEL WIRTS b. 1814 IN BALTIMORE, MD
Jonathan...new info on my mystery photograph.
Michael Wirts m:Artemesia Davis 17 March 1839.He is enumerated 1840 census: 1 male 20-30;1 female 15-20; 1 female
1-5 yrs.It appears that there was a boy child born abt 1943-45 and at the same time Artemesia Vanishes. 1850 census enumerates Michael & a Catherine Davis living with George Wirts(presumably his brother) & wife Mary. It's definitely our Michael as he's listed as Gilder (which is correct)George is 42; Mary 31;daughter Mary A. is 16; Michael 25 and Katherine Davis is 70yrs old. There is no mention of either child, until "William" shows up in the 1860 census as 18 yr old in the residence of Michael (gilder) & wife Mary A. (Collins) Wirts; Sons: George W. and Samuel Bennett Wirts. William is listed as a son of Michael's. I wonder if the name Gram wrote on the back of that picture is a nickname of some sort?
It appears that Artemesia either died in childbirth or left for parts unknown.Katherine Davis must have taken the children as Michael seems to be supporting her in 1850.
This does not explain were the children are between 1850-1860, or whether the daughter even exists at this
I still have no parents for Michael but at least it seems he had a brother.
More digging to do.Any suggestions???
Many thanks for posting on my behalf.Hope we get some clues. We could post the picture??
