Hello, Don, thanks so much for sharing your Wiswell info!
I was surprised to find you're a descendant of "Uncle Noah"
as no one seems to know what became of Noah or his children!
My ancestor John Rice Wiswell had only one brother- Noah.
(There was another Noah I researched but he settled in
Bureau Co., IL. by 1850, died there 10 May 1860, Princeton
twp., of consumption, wife Elizabeth Gordon, 5 children.)
In my family history book manuscript John Rice Wiswell and
Edy Taber, on the page for Noah Wiswell, this is what info
I had researched and wrote:
"Very little information has been found about our gr.gr.
gr.gr. Uncle Noah Wiswell. He may have been living in Illinois in the 1820's, may have moved and settled in Missouri.
Morgan Co., IL. Marriage records, 1827-1860, book A, pg.4:
Noah Wiswell md. Harriet W. Scott, 23 Jun. 1829.
Clay Co., IL. Early Missouri Ancestors, vol.2:
Noah Wiswell, record of bankruptcy, 18 Aug. 1830.
Clay Co., IL. Marriage records:
Noah Wiswell md. Mary M. A. Jones, 20 Mar. 1831.
The 1820, 1830, 1840 Censuses, Mo. and IL., did not list a Noah Wiswell. Also checked 1830 to 1850 Censuses, AR., IN., KY., NE., KS., MS., and 1840 AR., TN., KY., MS., KS., NE.,
TX., LA., but none of the census indexes listed him.
I found Noah in the 1850 Census, California. Other Wiswells
listed were from distant Wiswell branches of our tree, from New England states. Noah was enumerated with his son:
El Dorado County, CA., Kelsey's Mining Camp, pg.415:
Noah Wiswell, age 51, b.MA., a miner, with
Joseph Wiswell, age 19, b.MO., a miner
Noah and Joseph, then, were '49-ers. Noah may have been a widower, or still married but his wife was living elsewhere.
He may have died in California. I found no other record of him. Joseph was born about 1831 in Missouri. His mother may have been Harriett W. Scott or Mary M. A. Jones. I would like to hear from any of Noah's descendants, if they have any information."
On the page Records of Bosque Co., TX., 1870's-'80's, I had researched and written, with help from a distant cousin who lived in Cisco, Victor Latham, Deed records listing my own Wiswell family, John's widow Edy who md. 2nd husband Dr. Bennett J. Doen, and John's and Edy's sons John and Joseph, etc.I also listed in Deed records of Falls Co., TX. their son John Wiswell, and D. F. Wiswell and Leonidas Wiswell, both of whom I could not identify. I wondered if D. F. and Leonidas were distant cousins of John Rice Wiswell's but I couldn't determine the relationship. For your info:
Deed Records of Falls Co., TX., inluding:
H. M. Goode to D. F. Wiswell of Bell Co., Bk.K,pg.83,
9/4/1872. Cancel notes given as purchase price to D. F. Wiswell of McLennan Co., Bk.V,pg.214, 9/7/1885.
D. F. Wiswell to W. W. Wiswell, both of Falls Co., Bk.P, pg.506, 12/31/1880. W. W. Wiswell and wife Fannie E., Bk.V, pg.248, 10/2/1885. D. F. Wiswell and wife C.A., sold land bordering Leonidas Wiswell's, Bk.U,pg.202, 1/9/1885.
Leonidas Wiswell and wife Rena, sold land, Bk.Z,pg.143,9/20/1885.
By 1849 my John Rice Wiswell and Edy left AR. and moved to Denton Co., TX., where John d.(1850), and in 1857 Edy moved with most of her children west to CA. (I have the story of their wagon train-company) and John, Jr. and Joseph stayed behind in TX. I'm a descendant of Elizabeth Wiswell Bigham who was the daughter of John and Edy Wiswell. The Bighams were early settlers in Merced Co., CA.
Any more info you could share about Noah and his children would be very helpful if I may include it in my book, keep in touch. Cousin Jo Lynne Harline, Ogden, UT.
