Polly Woodard b. 1798 and Charles Sergeant b. abt. 1795
Polly Woodard and Charles Sergeant/Sargent were married about 1818 in Crawford County, Pennsylvania, shortly after they both arrived there from neighboring counties in New York (she was born in Vermont). They had twelve or more children, and moved to Black Hawk County, Iowa, about 1855 with some of them.
There was an Albert Sergeant living near them in Iowa who was born about 1819 in Pennsylvania and so could have been their oldest son, but I cannot prove that. I would like to know if anyone knows anything about him.
A son whose name I know but I can't find much about him is Edmund or Edmond, who lived in Indiana and ran a hotel. He apparently served in the Union Army though he would have been about 40 years old at the time. It seems his son Theodore may also have been in the Indiana infantry.
Also I do not know anything about any of their daughters, and am missing even names of at least one other son. I was able to find out a lot about three sons, Byron, Asaph and Morrison, who lived in Iowa.
One daughter of Albert, Margaret Sergeant, married James Washburn. Polly Woodard's mother was Lucy Washburn. I wonder if James could have been descended from one of Lucy's brothers. His father's name was Harvey, his mother Jeanette, I think, but I don't know her maiden name.
That's a lot of questions, but I've learned that all it takes sometimes is one little clue and many answers start to come together.
Thank you very much for your attention.
