Nathaniel Ray who died in 1823 in Allen County, KY - Letter from his g-grandson
Sherrill Ray has shared shared some letters with a group of researchers from the line of Hix Jones Ray.The letter is posted at ancestorstories.org.
The letter was written by Thomas Franklin Ray who was the son of James Carroll Ray and the grandson to Hix Jones Ray.
Thomas states that his great-grandfather Ray emigrated from Scotland and his great-grandmother from Wales. They settled in Virginia and he heard his grandfather say that 50 pounds of tobacco was paid for his mother's transportation to these shores.
Thomas' grandfather would be Hix Jones Ray and his great-grandfather would be Nathaniel Ray who died in Allen County, KY.
It is generally accepted the Nathaniel Ray who died in Allen County, KY is the son of Nathaniel Wray who was in Brunswick County, Virginia.
It is possible that Thomas got his generations confused.
I am still looking for any type of papertrail that confirms the Nathaniel Ray who died in 1823 is the son of Nathaniel Ray.The only documents that I have found is the personal tax list that lists a Nathaniel Wray, Sr and a Nathaniel Wray, Jr.
