My name is Simon Wrynn. I am 71 years old and working for the U.S. Government in Germany. My father, who passed away in the 1960s, had the same name and I believe that his father was also a Simon.Simon and James were brothers who came from Lietrim and settled in Brooklyn. In an 1880 US Census, I found no less than 3 "Simon Wrynn"s in one household. One was apparently a bit older and was shown as head of the household. The others were two more Simons, a James and several female Wrynns. They were all listed as cousins. My father told me that his father and brother were stone masons from County Lietrim and sure enough, one Simon was listed as a stone mason. If James was his brother, he was listed as a gardener in this census.
I also noted that my Grandfather was single at the time of the census but my father was born circa 1886.Don't know much about my Grandmother but the name Mary Monaghan sticks in my mind - this may not be correct. My father told me that his father went into the liquor business - I am sure I remember that correctly.I searched the Brooklyn Daily Eagle's on-line files and found numerous links to "Simon Wrynn" and they were often connected to the liquor business.
I haven't done a formal search yet and have been depending mainly on search engines such as Google and Yahoo for information.
