Youree Family Crest and name history
Found a site that gives the Youree Crest and the history of the name. According to the site, the origin of the name is Scottish. Spelling variations are Urie, Ure, Urey, and many others (as we know!). It says that the name was first found in Ayshire (Scotland? - it doesn't say) where they held a family seat from very ancient times, before and after the Norman Conquest of 1966. Some of the first setters fo this name or its variants were: William and Andrew Ure who arrived in N.Y.in 1820 along with Elizabeth; James Ure arrived in Boston in 1768; Patrick Urie arrived in East New Jersey in 1686. No mention of our North Carolina Youree/Urie's.
