The Zambrano name
I have found the following:
Zambrano - One who came from Zambrano (place of the moorish festival; sailor's place), in Spain. Found as the name of a village near Vitoria. Derived from Spanish 'zambra" which is from Arabic "zamra" meaning Moorish festival.
"Zambrana" comes from the Arabic "zamr" meaning a musical instrument. The broader meaning would be Moorish music or dance of the Moors. This would refer to a place of Moorish fiestas.
A Basque name from the parish of Santa Maria de Zambrana (Guipuzcoa). One branch went to Andalusia.
Taken from: Spanish American Surnames in the Southwestern United States.
My sister recently visited Italy, and they told her that Zambrano was Sicilian.
If anyone has a copy of the family crest, PLEASE, PLEASE, email it to me.
