Joseph Zebenne was off the coast of La. when the ship he was on sunk. The information I have is that he lashed his two trunks together for a life raft and was floating ashore when one had to be cut loose when it began sinking. He was sure that he was the only survivor untill he overheard someone talking about being on that same ship when it sunk. I know that he was married to Elizabeth in Clarke County Ga. but I don't know Elizabeth's maiden name. They were listed on the census of 1850 in Clarke County but in Paulding County on the census of 1860. Their children were all girls but one son that did not survive. I understand that he owned a restaurant and butcher shop in Athens Ga. before moving to Paulding County. He was back in Athens after the Civil War imployed as a lamplighter. I don't know where he died or where he was burried.
