William ZELLER b. 1849 Stark County, Ohio
I am trying to find a link with anyone working on the ZELLER name. My GG-grandfather, William Zeller, was born in Stark county on Jan 4, 1849. He left the county and was married in Crawford county, Ohio. He went on to raise his family and die in Wyandot County, Ohio on Feb. 7, 1931. I know nothing of his ancestors beyond what it says in his obituary.
William's obit: Daily Chief Newspaper, Upper Sandusky, OH, Feb. 7, 1931: "William Zeller, aged eighty two years, died at his home south of Kirby, Saturday morning at 1 o'clock after an illness since last October with a complication of diseases. Mr Zeller was born in Canton, Jan 4, 1849 the son of Isaac and Mary Sponseller Zeller. He was married to Miss Salinda Shirk, who preceded her husband in death. Three sons and three daughters were born to this union, the following of whom survive: Isaac Zeller, of Cleveland; John Zeller of near this city; Guy Zeller at home; Mrs. Lula Schoenberger, of this city, and Mrs. Blanche Stansberry, of Brownstown. Larkie Zeller, a daughter, is deceased. Mr Zeller leaves eighteen granchildren, seven great grandchildren, two brothers residing in California, and a sister, residing in Canton. Two brothers and one sister prededed Mr. Zeller in death. Mr Zeller was a member of a Reformed church at Canton and had followed the occupation of farming. He was a kind neighbor and friend and will be missed in the community in which he resided. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at the Zeller residence, at 2 o’clock. Burial will be made in the Salem Methodist Episcopal cemetery."
I have looked through the marriage records and find an Isaac Zeller to a Julie Ann Sponseller there in Stark on Dec 23, 1845. I found an Isaac Zeller with wife Juliean in the 1870 census in Osnaburg twp. They have a son William and the correct number of boys and girls (as described in the William’s obit) So I am wondering if this is in fact my William’s parents. Also in the marriages are another Isaac who married Catherine Sponseller in 1851. This couple came to Seneca county and raised their children, so I know they are not the right ones. The obit does not name any of William’s siblings. Please write back to me if you can help in any way.
