Elmer Ziegler of South Elgin

Elmer W. Ziegler was born July 19, 1913, and passed away peacefully of natural causes an Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, at Sherman West Court in Elgin, Ill., where he had been a resident for the last several years. Previously, he had lived in South Elgin for many years until 2004. For almost 20 years, Elmer and his late wife, Gladys, owned EIm's Hardware on McLean Blvd. in Elgin. He was active in Golden K, the Interfaith Pantry and read to young students in school. He was an honest man, always ready to help others in need, donated to many charities and everyone found him fun to be around. He always took care of his responsibilities to his family and the community, as a good man should. The family would like to thank our good friend, Andy Minehart and his family, all the staff at Sherman West Court and Hospice for everything they did to help Elmer for the last years of his life. We will always appreciate your goodness and caring. Elmer is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Paul Mitchell of Poetry, Texas. In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated. If you would like to honor his memory, please make a donation in his name to the Red Cross or the American Heart Association , two of his favorite charities. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 15, at South Elgin Community United Methodist Church at 300 S. Collins St. A light lunch at the church will follow the memorial service.
