OBITUARY:

LOWELL / HIGHLAND - Boyd D. Zink, age 86, of Lowell, IN, formerly of Highland, passed away Friday, December 26, 2003. He is survived by a daughter, Barbara (Evan) Berkey of Lowell; grandson, Jay Berkey and granddaughter Jenna Berkey, both of Lowell. He was preceded in death by his wife Eileen "Mikki" in 1999. Friends are invited to call on Monday, December 29th from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Sheets Funeral Home, 604 E. Commercial Ave., Lowell, IN 46356. Private graveside services will be held in Salem, IN. Boyd was a native of southern Indiana, born to Lotus and Estella (nee Smith) Zink on January 15, 1917 near Salem. He was a graduate of Bedford High School, Bedford, IN and Purdue University, West Lafayette, where he was one of the founding members of Chauncey Cooperative House. He was a WWII Army veteran serving in both the European and Pacific Theatres. He was also a member of the Indiana State Retired Teachers Association, Lake Co. Retired Teachers Association and Plumbers' Locals #307 and #21. Boyd was a resident of the Calumet Region since 1947. He served as an industrial arts teacher at Hammond Technical Vocational High School and Hammond Area Career Center for 39 years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Chauncey House Alumni Maintenance Fund or the charity of your choice.
