OBITUARY:

Alma Ruth (Zink) Colson, daughter of Isaac Thomas and Della Frances (Yonce) Zink, was born November 17, 1914, east of Appleton City, less than a mile from where she was presently living. She died April 11, 2004, at Golden Valley Hospital in Clinton at 89 years of age. Ruth attended country schools and graduated from Appleton City High School. She was baptized at the First Christian Church in Appleton City in the fall of 1927 accepting Christ as her Savior. On December 24, 1930, she was united in marriage with Kermit Lee Colson. In 1936 they moved to California where she worked during the day and attended college at night. In 1939 they moved to the central San Joaquin Valley. during the war Ruth worked at the Air Force base where Lee was stationed. In the fall of 1980 they moved back to Missouri, living on the AA Highway near Appleton City. Ruth was employed by General Motors dealers for 20 years as office manager and accountant. In 1972 she went back to work for four years as office manager for Couture Farms. Mrs. Colson was a 45-year member and past Matron of Lily of the Lake Chapter #41, Order of the Eastern Star in Lemore California. She also served the California Grand Chapter in several capacities, including Deputy Grand Matron. She was a 50-year member and past president of Lemore American Legion Auxiliary Post #100, a member of Sharon Temple #92 Daughters of the Nile in Fresno, California. She was past Bethel Guardian of Lemore, Bethel of Jobs Daughters #288, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Strafford #157 of Appleton City. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 71 years; two brothers, Andrew and Hazel Zink; two nephews, Kenneth Zink and Bill Colson; and two nieces, Evelyn Dines and Jane Zink. Survivors include two nephews, Donald Lee Colson of Tulare, California, and Stanley Zink, Appleton City; five nieces, Betty Lou Payne, Roanoke, Texas, Janet Colson of Tulare, California, Carolyn Kelsay of Urich, Bettie Zink of Mt. Zion, and Carolyne Colson of Deepwater; one sister-in-law, Margaret Colson, Urich, and a brother-in-law, Walter (Bill) Colson of Tulare, California. Funeral services were at Hill & Son Funeral Home, Appleton City, Wednesday, April 14, 2004. Burial was in Appleton City Cemetery.
