Cincinnati 1820 onwards
My gg-grandfather Anton Donnersberger (1794-1863) arrived in Cincinnati in 1822 and married Eva Zoller, daughter of Johan Zoller.
From a German language newspaper "Sonntagsausgabe der Cincinnati" May 14, 1922 is an article that gives a description of Anton's life."Die Pionier=Gärtner von Cincinnati".It doesn't say much about Zoller however, refering only to "junge fru ... Eva, Dochter des Handelsgärtners Johann Zoller aus Fordheim in Baden, der in Storre ??Tomnfhiv?? wo jesst die St Michaelskirche ftcht, eine Gärtnerei hatte".
I find the German a bit daunting, but my interpretation is that when Anton D. arrived 1822, Johan Zoller was already established as a trade-gardner. Donnersberger was himself a skilled gardner, and he must have taken over the business from his father-in-law, later donating the land to build St Michael's church (after selling off the rich top soil).
Does anyone have more information on Johan Zoller or his other children and descentents? The Fordhem referred to may be Pforzheim, of which there are several in Baden.
