2.JOSEPH2 RICHARDSON (JONATHAN1) was born Bet. 1740 - 1742 in Loudoun, Virginia, and died December 23, 1817 in Rockingham, North Carolina. He married SARAH COMPTON January 12, 1769 in Loudoun, Virginia, daughter of SAMUEL COMPTON and MISS.She was born August 1753 in Fairfax, Virginia, and died 1846 in Rockingham, North Carolina.
Notes for JOSEPH RICHARDSON:
Most sources lists Joseph's birth place Loudoun, but Joseph was actually born in Prince William hence:Stafford Co.- Prince William 1731- Fairfax 1752- Loudoun 1757
Joseph's mother was Jonathan's first wife.

Joseph Richardson Family#894
Joseph Richardson was born cir 1750 probably in the State of Maryland, where he grew up.He was married to Sarah Compton in Louden Co., Va. in 1769.Sarah Compton was probably a native of Maryland, the daughter of Samuel Compton and wife.Soon after marriage the Richardson family moved from Louden Co. to Bedford Co. Va.It appears that Joseph's father Jonathan, his step mother and half brothers and sisters also made this move.
Sometime in the 1790's cir 1795, Joseph Richardson and wife Sarah Compton Richardson with most of their children moved to Western Rockingham Co., NC.Settling on the North Beaver Island Creek on or near the Stokes Co. line.It is believed that Joseph's oldest daughter, Nancy, married Anderson Melton in Bedford Co Va. in 1787, where they apparently remained as they are not shown in any local records.

From Billy Stamper:
Subject: Joseph and Wm Richardson birth year
Rob, Lessa and Barbara- I have been making charts and trying to clarify
in my mind the birth-years of the above. I know that I can't prove what I am
about to send but I want you to also think about it and let me know what you
think.
1. Joseph- I believe that he was born between 1740 and 1742, probably the
first child of Jonathan and Elizabeth. The only thing is hewould have
been 75 to 77 years old and that was old for a man in that day! However the
Richardson's have all enjoyed longevity.
William-here also applying the above anology, I believe that he was born
1750-1755. Since he was not mentioned in Jonathan's will I think he had left
home at an early age and was on the frontier fighting the indians and
accompaning exploring parties. He would have been 80 to 85 when he died.
In a book Adventurers on Western Waterspage #93: A List of Tithables on
the Head of Little River; Charles English, Wm. Richardson,.......John Price, John Evins,..... All had one tithe except Charles English who had 2.
The Time Frame here is about 1771.
Jesse B. 1760 and died 1839. So he lived 79 yrs. Amos lived 83 years
and Thomas and lived 78 yrs.
We know that Jesse, Thomas and Amos life spans are correct so it makes
me believe that I am not far off on Joseph and Wm. I suspect that Wm may
have applied for a pension. He did get land and I think he was a good
manager and made some money. You know they turned Jesse down first
because he was well to do. Eventually after he died they gave it to the
widow.
Best Wishes

"Patriotic Females of Kentucky"
The following paper is copied from an original communication addressed to Governor Isaac Shelby, dated Glasgow, Ky., October 28th, 1812; and endorsed "S. Richardson," (mail). The paper was found in File Box 9, Jacket 58, among numerous documents and letters relating to the military affairs of the War of 1812, and bears out the statement of Col. Micah Taul that the women of Kentucky assisted in equiping the Volunteers from Kentucky before the Federal Government supplied clothing for the winter campaign of 1812-13.
The list herewith presented shows the names of women of Barren and Hardin Counties who made contributions of clothing. The report was made on a printed form with blank spaces left for the name of the person to whom the "cloathing" was sent, and the name of the county. It is therefore probable that similar forms were distributed to all counties and reports of contributions made thereon.
"WHEREAS our patriotic Volunteers have marched in great haste to CANADA, at the call of their Contry, without proper time to furnish themselves with sufficient CLOATHING for the approaching season in that cold climate; the benevolent and humane FAIR SEX of Kentucky (who have ever been ready to lend their aid) are invited on this occasion, to make contributions in such articles of Cloathing as may best suit the convenience of each individual. In order to remedy any inconvenience, the undersigned agree and oblige themselves, to furnish the different articles of Clothing annexed to their respective names, and send them to the house of WILLIAM RICHARDSON, on or before the 15th of October next; to be by him kept in store:--Whose duty it shall be, immediately thereafter, to apprise the Executive of the State of Kentucky, of the amounts and kinds in his hands, and move them to such place as he may direct, within the limits of the county of BARREN subject to the direction and disposal of the said Executive, for the use of the Kentucky Volunteers."

Rob and Lessa
William and his half-brother Jesse were in the service under Gen Clark by
6 July 1780 as they are both on the roll ofCapt. John Kennedy's Co on that date. I
have the copy from the archives also in the book "George Rogers Clark and his Men
1778-1784" by Margery Heberling Harding which was published1981 by the Ky
Hist. Society.
Pages 55-56 had the company roll for duty from 6 July to Aug 20. The
author or who ever transcribed the payroll spelled Jesse, "Jiby". I suspect that they
were not familiar with the way they wrote the double s at time. Immediatle
following Jesse is Stephen English. William Richardson on page 56 same roll is listed as not on duty.
